Riverton Grange conducted its April membership meeting on Friday, April 4th, with a large attendance. Before the meeting, a special Kitchen Renovation meeting was held to discuss the next steps in renovating the kitchen.
Since their last visit, Sister Gail Prelli and Brother Charlie Bierce attended the April meeting and saw many new hall enhancements (AED, WIFI, freezer, first aid kit, working front and back door locks). The meeting began with President Roberts reading the National Grange Proclamation celebrating National Grange Month. Under new business, the members unanimously approved a resolution opposing any National Grange dues increases at this time. The members also approved a hall rental agreement. All tenants must pay a rental fee and have insurance for their events. The Grange’s largest tenant, Barkhamsted Forks Senior Center, continues to hold weekly lunches at the Hall for seniors with packed attendance. These lunches are open to all, and it is nice to see attendance from Riverton, Winchester, and Granby Granges each week.
The Union Agricultural Society of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, and Hartland approved the Riverton Grange request to install a safety mirror on their property so vehicles can safely exit our parking lot. Riverton Grange Secretary Judy Doyle was recently elected to the UAS Board of Directors.
The Community Service Committee, chaired by Dave Roberts, is working on the next American Flag Retirement Ceremony; hopefully in June. Riverton Grange has already retired over 6,000 American Flags per U.S. Code requirements since this program began four years ago. The CS Committee also reminded members about the Project Sustenance box on the hall’s front porch, which has non-perishable food items available to anyone in need 24/7. Finally, the members unanimously voted to again participate in the Third Grade Dictionary Project for 2025, chaired by Lecturer Raine Pedersen, which the Grange has participated in for over two decades. |
