Aug News from N. Stonington Community Grange No. 138

  AUGUST 19, 2024 --

Aug: Meeting omitted for 4H Fair

Aug. 23: Mexican-American War (1846-1848).  Wait!  The Alamo happened when? (1836)

Our Election of Officers in June brought Robert miner back to the President’s seat. Most of our officers remain the same with a few exceptions. Our Secretary has retired as she will be moving to Rhode Island in the spring. She will be our Pomona, an office she held when she first joined the Grange in 1970 before she took on the job of Secretary. Our new Gatekeeper is Nick Mullane, who was also reelected to the Executive Committee for three years.

After election we learned some interesting facts about the Barbary Pirates and their place in our history.

Our picnic at the end of June was a cozy affair but the food was varied and delicious, with Mike Riley and Robert Miner at the grill. It was a chilly evening for late June, so games were omitted, and all returned home to warm up.

The local Lions held a very successful steak dinner and raffle at our hall to raise money for their many charitable projects.

And if those pesky hurricanes that are already raising their hideous heads down south will just give us a wide berth this summer, next time we will tell you all about joyous July.
