Jul News from N. Stonington Community Grange No. 138

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  JULY 3, 2024 --

July 5: War of 1812

July 12: omitted for the Fair

July 28: Meeting omitted

May has been a busy month! We welcomed State Lecturer Dave Roberts to our May 10 meeting. Dave presented seals and certificates to longtime members and helped us honor our 2024 Community Citizen, Charles M. Smith III. Town officials and many of Charlie’s friends and family were on hand to enjoy Sue’s program, which included the presentation of many honors for Charlie and the humorous skit “This Is Your Life, Charlie Smith”. At our second meeting in May we remembered members lost during this past year and honored our armed services.

On May 25 we hosted the North Stonington Education Fund’s annual 5 K race on our grounds. This is a major fundraiser for the Foundation that contributes so much to our local schools. We man the food booth and cook the hundreds of hamburgs and hot dogs provided for the runners.

On May 27 we put our float together for the annual Memorial Day Parade. Many thanks to Gloria and Richard White for the loan of their hay wagon and truck for the event and to Jeff Barnes for doing the driving. The North Stonington Agricultural Fair Queen and Junior Princess rode on the float this year.

And speaking of the Fair (July 11-14): with all the usual food, entertainment, pulls, animals and arts and crafts we will have a circus performance each day. Don’t miss it! And if things will just calm down a bit next time we will tell you all about jolly June.
