Around The Grange
July News from N. Stonington Community Grange No. 138

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  JULY 1,2023 --

Aug. 4: I haven’t Got “Operation” Aug. 25 I Haven’t Got “Battleship”

School is over and Master Robert Miner has presented our $1,000 Scholarship to a graduating senior from Wheeler High School.

Our annual picnic was cozy and delicious. The rain stayed away, Mike did a great job of grilling the hot dogs and cheeseburgers to perfection and there was a variety of potluck food to tempt every appetite. It was good to see Scott, whose busy schedule has kept him away from meetings for a while. Hope to see him more often.

Please note the date change for our first meeting in August. The New London County 4 H, whose Expo is held on our grounds each year, has moved their date to the second weekend in August; so, we are meeting on the first Friday. The ladies will be in charge of the program that night and the gentlemen will provide refreshments. The tables will be turned on the 4th Friday with the Gentlemen providing the program.

Local carpenters have been at work in our hall. A kitchen cabinet has been removed and the big freezer that has spent many years in the downstairs hall has taken its place. This makes the hall appear much bigger and it is more convenient for the kitchen workers. Thanks to all who worked on the project. And if that mountain lion who has been seen lurking around town will just stay away from my yard, next time we will tell you all about Jolly July.
