Oxford Grange has been meeting regularly and holding some serious discussions about our way forward. We have been researching options for making the Grange more financially viable. What has become apparent is that hall rentals are quite lucrative if the venue is properly advertised. We put a sign board out in front advertising this. People who rent the hall really like the ambiance of the vintage building. What is apparent is that to continue and make the building more attractive to renters is the need to upgrade. We have been researching electrical upgrades to the limited service of our 1929 building. The prices we have indicated that it is possible if we continue with rentals we are currently getting, combined with a possible loan through the Connecticut State Grange. We applied for the Connecticut State Grange Foundation $1000 grant available to Granges every two years for capital improvements. We have applied this grant to repairs and upgrades to our heating system. I would also like to thank member Mike Brandon for donations to that effort. Also recent servicing of the septic system paid for by a donation from Dorothy Vallee has shown that to be in great functional order as determined by Loyd Clark & Sons Septic Services.
We are looking into continuing with some open mic events late in the winter or early spring. Dan Golias and Rich Franzino have become our building managers and for that I thank them. The town of Oxford is currently starting the process of removing the hill behind the Grange hall to flatten its land holdings there for further development and usage. We are unsure if and how that will impact us.
