President's Message
President's Message: Fair Season is Here

By George Russell, CT State Grange President

  August 5, 2021 --

With  the  dog  days  of  summer upon us in August; the Granges are putting the last-minute touches on their upcoming agricultural fairs. With most of the Grange fairs being canceled in  2020;  this  should  be a good season to show off flowers, vegetables, baked goods, canning goods and more. You can look forward to good food and fellowship when you attend Grange fairs.

With the Connecticut State Grange Session in October, we should start filling out the Honor Community Grange Report. The Honor Grange program has three levels like last year: the BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD. The Honor Grange report should be sent  to the State President by September 15, 2021. You can find the details of this program in the Blue Book. Because of the COVID-19: Zoom meetings will count as a minimum of one legal meeting per month. Grange representation with at least one Pomona meeting during the year. Zoom meetings will count, as the meetings of all three Pomona Granges were pretty much all on Zoom this past year.

Last year the Connecticut State Grange was honored to have the first-place community service at National Grange thanks to Cheshire Grange who received this honor.

Send your Community Service reports and address any questions about this program to State Grange Vice President Rob Buck. He would like to receive them by September 1st so that he can get them judged and send the winning book to National Grange.

Check out the Blue Book for other contests and awards that will be presented at the state session.

As I mentioned in last month’s article, the Big E will return to full capacity. The fair will run from September 17 to October 3. The New England Grange Building Country Store will also be  open. We will be looking for volunteers to staff the store for the 17 days of the fair. If you are available to work in the store you can contact Noel Miller or myself.

Let us all get out and support our Community and Grange fairs. Stay safe and healthy hope to see you all soon.
