Norwich Grange mourns loss of member Mildred Bernier

Mildred K. Bernier December 23, 1928 - March 31, 2012 Norwich - Mrs. Mildred K. Bernier of 66 Ox Hill Rd. passed away Saturday afternoon at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. She was born in Norwich December 23, 1928 the daughter of Richard and Josephine (Dudkowski) Kaminske.

Mildred was a 1943 graduate of St. Patrick School, a 1947 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and a 1950 graduate of the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in New Haven. She had been employed as a registered nurse at the former Uncas-On-Thames Hospital for 15 years, retiring many years ago. On October 10, 1953 in St. Patrick's Cathedral Mildred was united in marriage to John M.L. Bernier. He passed away June 29, 1987. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church Taftville, a past president of the Catholic Nurses and AARP, a menber of the Norwich Senior Center, the Norwich Grange, the Norwich Historical Society, and a longtime volunteer of Spirit of Broadway.

Mildred is survived by her daughter Renee B. D'Elia and her husband Leonard of Norwich, two brothers James J. Kaminske and his wife Kathleen of Mashpee, MA and Howard G. Kaminske and his wife Elizabeth of Ledyard, one sister Esther K. Snow of Norfolk, VA, her two grandchildren Marc and Laura D'Elia of Norwich, and numerous nieces and nephews.

All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Taftville Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. meeting directly at Church. Burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours at Godere Funeral Home 21 North 2nd Ave. Taftville are Monday 4-7 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Southeastern CT 227 Dunham St. Norwich, CT 06360 or to Sacred Heart School 15 Hunters Ave. Taftville, CT 06380.
