MARCH 13, 2013 -- George E. "Buzz" Coad Jr., 75, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at River Glen Health Center in Southbury. He was the husband of Linda (Campbell) Coad.
George was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Waterbury, son of the late George E. Coad Sr. and Irene A. (King) Coad. George's mom was born in Newtown, and he was the great-great-grandson of E.L. Johnson, the original Newtown historian. George was a graduate of the Woodbury High School, class of 1956.
George worked as a truck driver for St. Pierre Oil Co. and C.L. Adams. He also drove a milk truck for both H.H. Stone and Sons and Cowles Transportation. He was a member of the Mattatuck Drum Band, King Solomon's Masonic Lodge, # 7 A.F. & A.M., the Bethlehem Grange, St. Andrew's Society of CT and the North Congregational Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran member of the Woodbury Fire Department. As a family, he enjoyed, with all the kids, tent camping and fishing. The family also spent time together with the Oxbury 4-H Horse Club, the Bicentennial Wagon Train, the Waterbury Re-enactment of Rochambeau's March in 1976, and many years with the Southbury Eagles Fife and Drum Band.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Warren Coad and his wife, Sally, of Philadelphia, Tenn., and Mike Coad and his partner, Amy Vidler, of Watertown; his daughters, Virginia Morris of Southbury, Katie and her husband, Walt Castings, of Woodbury; his sisters, Nancy Cowles, Linda and her husband, Marty Walters, all of Woodbury, Sandra Doran of Ohio, Kathy and her husband, Ron Beaulieu, of Montana; grandchildren, Walter and Elysa Morris, and Melanie Rose Krauss; and step grandkids, Steven, Kevin, Brittany, Jeremy and Anthony.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at North Congregational Church, 11 Main St. North, Woodbury. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
