Grangers remember 80-year member Jean Lundeen

Jean Elberta (Drake) Lundeen passed away at her home on Nov. 21, 2012. She was 97 years old.

She was born in Sharon in 1915, the daughter of Betsey (Prindle) and William Drake.

She graduated from the Teachers College of Connecticut in 1938. Jean volunteered for the Women’s Army Corp in 1942 and served proudly for the duration of the war, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. While stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma she met Arthur Lundeen. They married in 1946 and settled in Sharon.

She taught for 20 years at Sharon Center School. In 1970 she received her master’s degree in education from Central Connecticut State University with a specialization in reading. She retired from teaching in 1983.

Jean was a lifetime member of the Taghhanuck Grange, holding many positions of leadership. In 2009 she was recognized for 80 years of continuous membership by the national organization.

Jean also enjoyed an active and lifelong membership at Sharon United Methodist Church. She was a woman of devout faith who tirelessly served her church and community in many capacities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lundeen; and her brother, Arthur Drake.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Estabrook, and her husband, John, of East Canaan; her son, Robert Lundeen, and his wife, Nora, of Dallas, Texas; her son, William Lundeen, and his wife, Karen, of Lakeville; her son, Peter Lundeen of Sharon; her daughter-in-law, Tammie Lundeen of Stockbridge, Mass.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Lundeen of Houston, Texas, Christopher Lundeen and his wife, Jacqueline, of Overland Park, Kan., Sarah Gosling and her husband, Matthew, of Dallas, Bryan Lundeen of Lakeville, John Lundeen of Kent, Stephen Lundeen of Lakeville, Mark Lundeen of Falls Village, Hannah Lillevoy and her husband, Cole, of New York City and Samuel Lundeen and Andrew Lundeen of Falls Village; her great-grandchildren, Chelsea Lundeen and Drake Zierlein of Houston, Joseph and Lucas Lundeen of Overland Park and Toby Lillevoy of New York City.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at the Sharon United Methodist Church on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. There will be no calling hours.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of arrangements.
