From The Lecturer's Desk
Let's work together for a better Grange

By Marge Bernhardt, State Lecturer

  AUGUST 2, 2011 --

Remember that old song which began “Summertime, and the Livin’ is Easy”?  Well it’s summertime in Connecticut and our Grange life is easy.  Look around.  There are Grange picnics, mystery rides, fairs, and I’m willing to bet that some of you receive your Granger while you are enjoying yourself at Lecturer’s Conference.  The Grange is our extended family.  Let’s make the most of it.  And, as Lecturers we should be right in there helping to plan these outings.  Fun events don’t just happen.  They take a lot of time and hard work, but are most definitely worth it in the end.

If you have more of these activities scheduled, why not ask your neighbors, your relatives, or even that nice lady that waits on you at the store to come and meet some new people.  We all have to work together.  Just think, if you help your Membership Committee to get a new member, that person in turn might be a regular contributor to your programs.

This time of year we also plan our schedule for next years’ activities.  Let’s not just keep the same program titles and activities year after year.  Spice up your programs and add some new zest to your Grange.   Need ideas?  How about contacting your schools?  Look for Youth Ambassadors or a Spanish or French Club that has travelled overseas over the summer.  Speaking before a group is a good experience for them and we can learn a lot from these students.  Like to travel?  Contact AAA.  They have information that is entertaining and educational as well.  Still stuck?  Give me a call, I’ll be glad to help you.  Not the Lecturer?  I’m sure your Lecturer would welcome an offer of a program they didn’t have to do themselves.  What a treat it would be for them to sit back in their own Grange meeting and be entertained by others.

We all need to work together for a better Grange.  Let’s all start today.  See You Around the State!
