Winchester Grange remembers Katherine Morton

Longtime Winchester Grange member Katharine B. Morton, passed away on June 4, 2011. She was born in Winchester, CT on June 25, 1916.

She was the daughter of Bessie and Stuart Bronson and great, great granddaughter of Rev. Frederick Marsh. Katharine was predeceased by husband Harold A. Morton and brothers, Birdsey Bronson, Winthrop Bronson, Stuart Bronson and son Lynn S. Morton. Survivors are daughters, Joan Woodrick of Ft. Collins, CO and Gwen Hicks of Hoschton, GA; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Katharine was a graduate of the Gilbert School and attended Bay Path Institute. She was a member of the Church of Christ (now Second Congregational) in Winsted, CT, Winchester Grange (over 75 years), Greenwoods Garden Club, The Auxiliary, Winchester Historical Society, and the Winchester Center Historical Association.

"Kay" shared many outdoor adventures with husband, Harold, the fisherman. They are both remembered for their efforts in furthering the causes of conservation and community improvement. For the past ten years, she lived at Village Gate in Farmington where she made many new friends with both residents and the staff who made her feel right at home.

There will be a graveside memorial service on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Forest View Cemetery at 9 AM followed by a reception at The Second Congregational Church, 800 Main Street, Winsted.
