National Lecturer Pompper honored by FFA

By The New Grange (May/June 2011)

  JUNE 22, 2011 --

National Lecturer Pete Pompper received notification in May that he has been nominated by the New Jersey FF Association Executive Board to receive the 2011 Honorary State FFA Degree.

The notification, which came from N.J. State FFA President Eric Nelson, said Pompper was chosen because of his significant contributions to the FFA and high school agriculture, food and natural resources education in New Jersey.

A formal presentation of the degree was made at the 82nd New Jersey State FFA Convention on Wednesday, May 25, on the Rutgers University campus in New Brunswick.

Pompper said he was honored to receive notification of the award.

“During my tenure as President of the New Jersey State Grange, I had the opportunity to work with three youth organizations that all had agricultural ties, the 4-H, Grange Youth and the FFA,” Pompper said. “All of these organizations have one thing in common: they all empower young adults to strive to their fullest potential in a safe and positive atmosphere. In today’s world, with all the negative stories about some youths who have taken a path that can be destructive in nature, I always found it encouraging working with (the FFA).”

“The FFA, to me, has been and will be a premier young adult building organization,” Pompper said.
