Remembering Alfred Vaill - Rabbit Breeder, Dairy Worker

Alfred R. Vaill, 79, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. He was the husband of Jeanne (Lind­blom) Vaill. Together they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on Friday.

Born on July 17, 1930, son of the late Harold L. and Katherine (Fritch) Vaill, he was raised in Goshen on his parents' dairy farm. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, class of 1952. He worked in the dairy industry his entire life and retired from Guida Seibert.

Alfred had been a life member of the Goshen Agricultural Society, where he ran the rabbit department for many years, and was also a charter member of the Nutmeg Rabbit Breeders Association. He and his wife ran Vaill's Bunny Farm for more than 35 years.

Alfred was a 60-year Grange member, having been a past master of the Goshen Grange and a current member of the Oxford Grange. He had also been the past commander of the American Legion Lamson O'Donnell Post No. 46, a 4-H leader for more than 25 years, and also a leader of the Torr-Go Dairy Club and the Merry Dairymen.

In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he is survived by three sons and their wives, Bruce and Phyllis Vaill of Goshen, Christopher and Maria Vaill of Georgia, and Darren and Tabitha Vaill of Goshen; god daughter, Jordana Hood and her husband, Matt; three brothers and their wives, Norman and Jane Vaill, Donald and Marilyn Vaill, and Lloyd and Nancy Vaill, all of New York; three sisters and their husbands, Joan and Joe Caldwell of Idaho, Judy and Donald Cox of California, and Virginia and Neil Wheelwright of Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren, five great-grand children and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Church of Christ Congregational, 5 Old Middle St., Goshen. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Goshen. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.
