North Stonington Grange remembers former secretary Patricia McGowan

Patricia P. (Perry) McGowan, 85, of Boombridge Road, North Stonington, died peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of James S. McGowan.

Born in Norwich on May 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Maurice C. and Elizabeth (Wochomurka) Perry.

Patricia was a graduate of Westerly High School.

Mrs. McGowan had been the Town Clerk, Tax Collector and Judge of Probate for the Town of North Stonington from 1951 until her retirement in 1998. At the time of her retirement she had been the longest serving Town Clerk in the history of State of Connecticut.

Patricia was a member and former secretary of the North Stonington Grange. She also enjoyed gardening, watching the birds around her home in North Stonington, spending time with her two grandsons and was an avid UCONN Huskies basketball fan.

In addition to her husband of almost 59 years, she will be sadly missed by her two sons, David J. McGowan of North Stonington and Charles P. McGowan and his wife, Debra A., of North Stonington. She was the loving grandmother of Ryan J. McGowan and Matthew D. McGowan. She also leaves her brother and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Mary Gavitt, Edmond and Rose McGowan and Shirley Perry.

She was predeceased by her brother, Russell Perry in 2005.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, R.I. Funeral service and burial in Union Cemetery will be private.
