America 250 Series Launch — Event #3: “Yankee Doodle Craft Party”
Join us for our third session in this four-part series celebrating America 250. For this session, we will help attendees learn to make various crafts. Refreshments will be provided by Barkhamsted Forks Senior Center.
June 5 Meeting Recap. Twenty members (including two 1+ members) and guests gathered at Riverton Grange Hall for the regular monthly meeting. President Dave Roberts opened the meeting and welcomed State Grange Vice President Ted Powell and his wife, Stephanie.
During the business meeting, members voted unanimously to accept Vincent, Kimberly, and James Mele as regular members of Riverton Grange following their transfer from Whigville Grange.
Members also voted unanimously to allow The Barkhamsted Seniors, Inc. (dba Barkhamsted Forks Senior Center) to name the new kitchen in recognition of their contribution of more than one-third of the project’s cost. Kitchen Renovation Committee Chair Judy Doyle reported that Riverton Grange is also being considered for its largest grant to date from the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation to support the renovation project.
Significant progress continues
on the kitchen renovation. The old kitchen has been completely removed, wall studs have been installed, and electrical work is currently underway. Plumbing improvements will follow, along with the delivery and installation of key kitchen equipment.
America 250 Community Series Co-Chairs Dawn Anstett and Tim Sweeney shared an update on the ongoing series, which began on
Memorial Day and will continue through late summer. The series will conclude in August with a catered dairy dinner—complete with a cow available for milking outside— and a special “Voices of Riverton Memories” program.
Lecturer James Mele introduced the evening’s program, presented by Carol Innes in recognition of Dairy Month. Carol shared a history of Connecticut’s dairy industry, offered several readings, and led a fun trivia game with prizes. Even President Dave Roberts was quick enough to answer one question first and take home a prize!
Prior to the meeting, members and guests enjoyed homemade refreshments provided by the Lazzaro family, which received many compliments.
