Sterling Community Fair

  AUGUST 2009 --

The 27th annual Sterling Community Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 723 Ekonk Hill Road in Sterling, on the grounds and in the hall of Ekonk Community Grange.
The State Police will conduct a bicycle rodeo for children, beginning at 10 a.m. Participants must bring their own bicycle and helmet. A drawing will be held at the conclusion of the rodeo for a new free bike for a boy and a girl. Call Rebecca Gervais at 564-1139 , before 8 p.m., for more information . New helmets will also be given away during the drawing.
Throughout the day, nail driving competitions will be held for all ages. Hammers, nails and safety eye protection will be provided. Russell Gray is the chairman of this event and can be reached at 564-2131 . From 12:30-2 :30 p.m., Carol Becker, PRT, certified body hoops instructor , will lead in hula hoop fun. All ages can participate and hoops will be provided. At 2:30 p.m., a drawing will be held and a participant’s name will be selected to receive a free hoop.
A moon bounce will be available all day, and the kitchen is in charge of the Sterling United Pentecostal Protestant Church and food will be available throughout the fair. Exhibits can be brought for judging on Friday, Aug. 7 from 4-7 p.m. Children and adults are encouraged to bring items of domestic manufacture, crafts, photography , vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, eggs, baked and canned goods, and hobbies, to be judged after 7 p.m.
