MAY 2008 --
To the editor:
On Saturday, May 17, the community gave my whole family a night to remember. My father's barn burned down on Jan. 14, 2008, and I lost a great deal of my hay crop. My friends at the Litchfield Grange came up with an idea for a benefit dance. They enlisted the help of the surrounding granges.
The Mountain County Pomona Grange sponsored the dance, so aptly called a 'Barn Dance.' Thank you does not seem like enough. So many people gave so generously. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this spectacular night possible. The grange members did so much work to put it together. They donated so much of their time. Volunteers made delicious sandwiches and desserts and put together beautiful raffle prizes.
The dance was held at the Litchfield Fire House, whose members were instrumental in fighting the barn fire. The Country Spice Band was wonderful. They played music all night with minimal breaks. Culver Griffin, God bless him, did a terrific job calling square dances. Murphy's Pharmacy sold tickets. A printer donated the tickets and printed the signs. Kirby made the big signs in front of the fire house.
Thank you to the people who came to the dance and supported me, and to those who bought tickets and donated money even though they were unable to attend. Thank you to my family and friends for being there when I needed you most.
