Around The Grange
August 2019 News from Ekonk Community Grange No. 89

By Sue Gray

  August 7, 2019 --

When you read this, Link Cooper will have stepped down as President, taken the office of Program Director again, and Brenda Craig is now at the helm. She has a great number of ideas and lots of enthusiasm. Our hall now has a BIG screen TV on the piano and our webmaster, Jaimie Cameron, has created a wonderful series capturing our activities recent as well as future plans. This will play continuously throughout suppers, Fair, etc. We purchased a new banner which will be first used at our Aug. 10th Fair. At our July meeting, Link passed the gavel to P.M. Russell M. Gray, giving him the honor of welcoming his oldest granddaughter, Lillian Sharpe and her dear friend, Abbey Dexter, into Subordinate membership! Wonderful to have Lillian feeling good enough to attend Grange again, although she still has a long road ahead. Brianna Gervais is the new Junior Grange President. Both Lillian and Brianna are excited to be on the Fair Committee and to their credit, have added several new ideas. The Juniors thrilled to watching “Secret Lives of Pets 2” at Lisbon Landing theater, weeded the flower bed under the Grange signboard as well as planting several of Betsy Molodich’s beautiful flowers in that spot and mulched around their raised beds as well as along the south side of the Grange hall. We voted to again participate in Sterling Family Day, where the Juniors also play an active role. We voted to purchase a Velcro tri-board and have an exhibit at Brooklyn Fair. We also donated $100.00 and Ekonk Community Grange will have its name added to sponsors on the Brooklyn Fair t-shirts! We thrilled to hearing and seeing Red Skelton recite the Pledge of Allegiance on our big screen TV at the July program on “Independence”. Guests at this meeting included Lecturer of Vernon Grange, Cherie Robinson and Ted Beebe, Master of Norwich Grange.

We will be joining Richmond Grange at their annual picnic at Larkin’s Pond in West Kingston, RI in August.
