Around The Grange
July 2018 News from North Stonington Community Grange No. 138

July 13: Meeting Omitted, It’s Fair Time!

July 20: “You Cannot Open A Book Without Learning Something.” CWA has program.

At our first program in may we played Jeopardy with all the categories having something to do with May. At our second meeting we remembered members lost during the past year and honored Memorial Day. We hold only one meeting in July because our Agricultural Fair will be held July 12-15 and we host the New London County 4H Expo July 27-29.

Memorial Day Weekend is always a busy time for us. On Saturday we hosted the North Stonington Education Fund’s annual road race and picnic. This organization raises money to offer grants to our schools for special projects and programs. We cook the hamburgers and hot dogs for the picnic in our food booth. This year we fed over two hundred runners and their families. Many thanks to those who helped! On Monday we put our float together in front of the hall. The Annual Memorial Day Parade forms on our grounds and will march through town. A big thank you goes out to Gloria and Richard White, who lent us their hay wagon and vehicle for the occasion, and Jeff Barnes, who drives it. After the parade we had three generations of Rileys helping to take it apart and stow it away for next year. And if those darn gypsy moths will just leave us alone this year next time I’ll tell you all about jolly June.
