The weather in the new year seems to be a little bit more kind to Winchester (knock on wood). It has been bitter cold and the activities at the Grange Hall have been at a minimum as we are ALL waiting for warmer weather.
Our next meeting will be “Valentine’s Day” on Valentine’s eve. Please join us for the meeting and the potluck supper prior at 6:00 P.M. There was an error in our Program Schedule. Potlucks/Dinners are listed to begin at 6:30 P.M. This is incorrect—they will begin at 6:00 P.M. I don’t know of any Grange member that can eat and have the proper amount of time (if there was ever such a thing) for fellowship in the 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting at 7:00!
The holiday theme of programs continues with “Presidents or” on Feb. 27 and “St. Patrick’s Day” on Mar. 13.
Winchester Grange will again be presenting dictionaries to Winchester/ Winsted third graders as part of the “Words for Thirds” program. In this age of digital everything, it is interesting to see how well received an actual book can be. While it is convenient to be able to pick up a phone or a tablet and search for the definition or spelling of a word, it is still important to be able to manually look up words in an actual dictionary and stumble upon new words along the way.
