July News from Simsbury Grange

By Susan Masino

  July 30, 2017 --

Sept. 16: Agricultural Fair, 10 A.M. – 3 P.M.

Save the date for our FREE FAIR on Saturday September 16 from 10-3, 236 Farms Village Rd., West Simsbury. Vendor tables are $25 and nonprofits are free. We were 100% booked last year so contact us ASAP if you want one! New this year we will have a “build your own” 12” x 12” Lego creation. It will meet the specifications of our Lego contest - so you can enter it in the fair next year for a cash prize!  At the fair we will have all of our usual contests, vendors, live music, performances and great old fashioned kids’ games. And - back by popular demand: arrive by 10 a.m. to hear the sound of the bagpipes of the Talcott Mountain Highlanders echoing across the beautiful fields of West Simsbury. We have added plenty of seating areas so everyone will be able to enjoy a cold lemonade (50 cents), hot dog, or slice of pizza (only $2!). Also, we have good news that our grant application has moved forward!

On June 12 the Town of Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted to forward our 2 neighborhood assistance grants to the State for consideration. Fingers crossed and we will keep you posted. The application was pretty easy and with sufficient advance notice we are happy to help other Granges apply next spring. The grant does not give the Grange any direct money, but it would make donations eligible for either a 100% or a 60% tax credit. Grant requests can be up to $150,000. The Simsbury Grange submitted one grant for $14,000 (energy conservation projects) and one for $22,000 (upgrades related to job training).
