  SEPTEMBER 2016 --

Ekonk Community Grange will have a booth at the annual Sterling Family Day, which will be held at the Sterling Ball Field in Sterling Center on Saturday, Sept. 10th from 11 a.m. until dark, when Fireworks will light up the night skies! Mike Molodich is Chairman of this event and can be reached at 860- 564-1117 if anyone has questions on this popular and free event in Sterling.

The public is invited to Ekonk Community Grange, 723 Ekonk Hill Road in Sterling, CT for a “Meet the Candidates” Night on Saturday, Sept. 17th at 7:00 p.m. Candidates for State Legislature and State Senate, serving our district, have all been invited.

Our Representative candidates: Tracy Hansen, Democrat (Tracy was born and raised in Rhode Island) now from Voluntown and her Republican challenger, Kevin Sczuak from Griswold. Senate candidates for our district include Democrat, Timothy Bowles from Preston and his Republican challenger, Heather Somers from Groton. Each candidate will be introduced and given opportunity to give a brief synopsis of their platform. A question/answer session will follow and the evening will end with refreshments, courtesy of the popular Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm. Legislative Director, Russell M. Gray, will serve as Moderator for the evening. The media has been invited.

On October 8th, the Grange will serve a public all you can eat roast beef supper, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Adults $12.00, children ages 12 and under, $6.00 and as always, preschoolers are admitted for free. The hall is handicapped accessible. Questions on this supper, call 860-564-2131.

The annual National Grange Distinguished Grange application has been completed and once again, Ekonk Community Grange has qualified. By this reading, the annual Community Service report has been completed and mailed in for judging.

The Grange has a new signboard on Rt. 49 in front of our building. This identifies our hall and is well constructed as well as eye catching. Thanks to Facility Chairman, Link Cooper, for its construction and installation.

Anyone with an interest in community service and socialization is invited to attend any of our monthly meetings and become a Granger. We meet every first Monday at 7:30 p.m.
