Around The Grange
Ekonk Community Grange New for August 2016

By Sue Gray

  AUGUST 8, 2016 --

The Fair Committee has been meeting and planning fun activities to keep families happily busy throughout Fair day, Sat., August 13th (9am-2pm) on the grounds at 723 Ekonk Hill Rd. in Sterling, CT. Exhibits will also be featured inside the hall. We have two volunteer Fire Departments who will participate this year as well as “Animal Experiences” outstanding hands - on show! As always, great food in the Grange kitchen prepared by our own cooks.

Unique this year will be a one day “Ekonk” post office at our Fair. Oneco Postmaster, Maurice Bessette, has arranged for Ekonk cancellation stamps on all letters brought to the Fair. Ekonk did have its own post office “back in the day” at the current home of Helen, George and Louise Molodich. Philatelists mark your calendars: this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get this unique cancellation stamp!  Postmaster Bessette has been a friend of the Grange for years, always present at our Christmas bazaar with stamps, coins and his smile!

Folks are encouraged to bring any entries on Friday, August 12th between 3 and 6 p.m. for judging. This year, our Fair book will be available on line--if you have any questions, call Secretary, Paulette Craig at 860-564- 3687 or 860-608-8086.

We do NOT have a supper planned for August.
