This spring featured our annual Craft & Bake Sale, Tag Sale, Super Prize Party and Strawberry Festival. The first two events were were well supported by our members and we thank them sincerely. Unfortunately, attendance at the Craft & Bake Sale and Tag Sale weren’t very strong but things really picked up for the Super Prize Party and Strawberry Festival.
While we made just under what we did last year, profit-wise, the attendance was much, much greater than last year. Our doors opened at 2:00 P.M. and the lines did not let up until 3:45 P.M. When I say they didn’t let up, I mean that the line stretched from the serving line at the back of our dining room, through the dining room, up the front stairs, out the front door, and down the front walk to the street. It’s really an amazing thing to see. People, in years past, purchased multiple servings of shortcake at a time. This year it was more of one shortcake per person. It was still an excellent turnout for the Festival and an excellent profit to fill our treasury.
It was also a pleasure to have the newly crowned Laurel King Ryan Weiss and Queen Joanne Harrington with us this year to serve shortcake. It’s become a great tradition each year to have them and their runner-ups with us to serve shortcake and greet our guests. Thank you!
On the evening before the Strawberry Festival, Winchester Grange hosted a special concert presented by Gerri Griswold. The concert featured Icelandic recording artist Lay Low. It was a wonderful evening of beautiful music. If you missed it, you will have another chance in October when another Icelandic musician will be featured at Winchester Grange. Watch this column for details as October 7 draws near!
At our second June meeting, our annual election of officers was held and there were BIG CHANGES! For the first time in 19 years, Winchester Grange will have a new Master, William LaTulipe will take the Master’s chair as this writer will move over to the Chairmanship of the Executive Committee. Congratulations to Billy and all members of Winchester Grange stand ready to help him settle into his new job. |
