Harmony Grange News for November

By George Ward

  NOVEMBER 23, 2014 --

Harmony Grange draped its charter in the September meeting for our oldest member, in age, for Mary Mazur who pasted away August 23, 2014 at the age of 102. She was well known for her wonderful sense of humor and her commitment to service to others. A woman of strong religious convictions, she was active in many religious, civic, and community organizations.

On October 4th, 2014, the Farm Bureau Tour group of Connecticut meet at Harmony Grange for lunch and dinner. The dinner was cooked in the Harmony Grange kitchen and served in the dining hall. Many hours of preparation were spent in getting the dining hall and kitchen in proper order for the occasion. Hopefully, members of the group will show an interest in the Grange and especially Harmony Grange.

At our October meeting we discussed the agenda of the upcoming Connecticut State Grange session and how the Grange should have reacted to the issues. We invited a member of the Executive Committee and the Legislative Committee of the Connecticut State Grange to answer questions the membership had.

Harmony Grange has rescheduled its 125th anniversary to early spring of 2015 to allow more time to make preparations and hopefully, to redecorate the lower level of the hall, including the bathrooms.

On October 4, the Fairfield County Connecticut Farm Bureau organized a farm tour promoting Connecticut Grown Ag products and businesses.  Harmony Grange volunteered the use of their hall for both lunch and dinner.  The Connecticut farm-sourced food and drink were supplied by Stone Gardens, Shelton, Mason’s Farm Market, Monroe, Bison Meat from Tanner’s in Brooklyn, CT.  Other foods and drinks were supplied as well.  Many hours of preparation were spent in getting the dining hall and kitchen in proper order for the occasion.
