Ekonk Grange hosts successful Candidate Forum

By Elizabeth Regan, Norwich Bulletin (10/3/14)

  OCTOBER 5, 2014 --

Paul Brycki, the Democrats' candidate for the 45th Assembly District seat being vacated by state Rep. Steve Mikutel, D-Griswold, said he was going door-to-door in Sterling when he was bitten on the hand by a dog.

The former Griswold first selectman recounted the story at a question-and-answer forum hosted by the Ekonk Grange in Sterling Thursday evening. Then, looking at his opponent, Republican Stu Norman, Brycki added: “The best part, Stu? It was a Democratic dog.”

All joking aside, Norman, a Jewett City real estate lawyer, told those in the audience that they wouldn’t be seeing him canvassing their neighborhoods during his campaign.

“I’ll attend events and I’ll listen to what you have to say,” he said. “I’m a pretty good listener.”

Thursday’s event was attended by more than thirty residents, mostly from Sterling and Voluntown, who asked questions about education, transportation funding, agriculture and state forests, to name a few topics. The tie that bound it all together was taxes.
