Around The Grange
Winchester Grange December Musings

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  DECEMBER 1, 2013 --

A big thank you to all of the members who helped make this year’s Holiday Bazaar and Cookie Walk such a great success.  Sisters Ramona and Terri Fassio deserve special thanks and appreciation for their long hours of work attending to every detail to make sure cookies were being baked, vendors were lined up, the hall was decorated, publicity was distributed, and on and on.  Thank you, both!  Sister Shirley Lemieux’s homemade Beef Barley Soup was the hit of the day selling out early in the afternoon along with the dozens of cookies on the cookie walk!

Looking ahead, we will have an Officer & Members Planning Meeting on Friday, Dec. 6 beginning at 7:00 P.M.  While we have been working very hard on fundraising and community activities throughout the year, our hall continues to have lots of needs (especially heat) so fundraising is the highest priority as we enter the part of the year when we traditionally have fewer activities due to weather uncertainty.

One fundraiser that has done very well throughout the year has been our 125th Anniversary Recipe Book with has now entered its second printing!  Our initial printing of 100 books sold out in September and a new limited supply of 50 more books is now on sale.  As with any publication, there were a few errors that needed correction and the new edition has all of the known errors corrected.  We wouldn’t want cooks looking for a “Crack Pot” to cook their Corn Chowder in, would we?  Anyone who has a first edition and would like to have a copy of the corrections to put in their books can contact me at 170 Scoville St. #14, Torrington, CT 06790; (860) 626-0326 or by email at Granger@CTStateGrange.org.  This is also where you can contact me to buy a copy of your own or to purchase copies to give as gifts to family and friends.  The cost is $12 per book and shipping (if necessary) is $4 per book.  Checks can be made out to Winchester Grange #74.
