Ekonk Community Grange December News Update

By Sue Gray

  DECEMBER 1, 2013 --

We were blessed to have Haven Nelson and Jack Cottrell visit us and gratefully accepted Richmond’s $500.00 donation to our treasury in appreciation for the help that our Grangers gave them (Richmond) throughout Washington County Fair.  It was presented during a discussion on our finances and discussion about our refrigerators.  One (old) refrigerator died and the commercial one that we have, while in excellent condition, is 25 years old.  It was voted to create a “Refrigerator account” in order to have money set aside “when” the commercial unit does expire.

We enjoyed the Power Point Presentation on Clifford and Trevor Gervais’ trip to the Kelley Farm in Minnesota and numerous questions were answered throughout.  Link Cooper presented Bill Czmyr (head of the Jewett City Home for Homeless Veterans) with a check for $879.00 (profit from our Oct. fundraising Roast Beef Supper.  We had a fun Halloween party with games, crafts, haunted trail hayride and lots of good food.  The next afternoon, many of our Grangers volunteered at the first annual Sterling Halloween Fun Night.  Rebecca Gervais was on the Committee; Mike Molodich gave SEVEN hayrides; Russell Gray and Link Cooper were one of 38 “trunk a treat” participants (assisted by Carrie Molodich).  Over 300 kids participated!

Our Grange youth will begin playing Volleyball every Sunday evening in the gym of the Municipal Building.  By the time that you read this, the NEW Pavilion will be completed on Grange property.  It is highly improved and completed by all volunteer labor and donated materials; this was Chris Sebastians’ Eagle Scout Project!  We can easily fit FOUR picnic tables in this area and look forward to years of busy usage!

We had a delightful visit (while eating spaghetti & meatballs++) with National Grange Representative, Chris Hamp and her husband, Duane.  Nice, nice folks!

Call Verna Cole at 860-564-2388 to reserve a table at our December 7th Christmas Bazaar: only $10.00!  We will serve corn or clam chowder and clam cakes that day from 12-2.  Take outs preferable since seating will be an issue.  We will be celebrating 125 years of serving our community--a committee is working on plans---look for further information to come forth.

Dec. 2:  Meeting/Program, 7:30 P.M.

Dec. 7: Christmas Bazaar 10-2

Dec. 7: Corn or Clam chowder & clam cakes 12-2

Dec. 13: Annual Junior Musical
