Ekonk Community Grange November News Update

By Sue Gray

  NOVEMBER 1, 2013 --

By the time you read this we will have held our “Meet the Candidates” night at our Grange.  We invited EVERY candidate running for ANY elected position in Sterling to our Grange.  We had a moderator, many excellent questions were asked and answered and we thank Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm for providing cider and their homemade cider donuts for refreshments.  We also held our third annual supper to benefit the Home in Jewett City for “homeless” veterans; a wonderful facility to help those who helped US: Americans!

Link Cooper has been installed as our new President and thanks to Jeff Barnes for doing an exemplary job as Installing Officer!  You will have met Link by this reading:  he was our Delegate to State Grange.

We welcomed Christine and Duane Hamp (National Flora and Washington State Master respectively and this year’s National Representatives to State Grange) to our hall and everyone enjoyed fellowship (and a spaghetti and meatball supper).  MANY Juniors attended.

We extend recovery wishes to Mike Dzurnak.  Mike lost his arm to the elbow in a tragic wood processor accident.  Sympathy to Sue Griffiths on the loss of her mother.

By this reading Jim Cole will be recovering from heart surgery and Jacob Gervais rotor cuff surgery.  FOUR folks in “need” of our prayers.

Clifford Gervais has been notified that he was selected as part of the Youth Officer Corp at National this year:  exciting news for our young Program Director.

We are having our own huge Halloween party:  crafts, games, hayride with “hauntings” and as usual, yummy food afterwards, PLUS, we are participating in the first Town of Sterling Halloween Party the next evening!

Plan to enjoy our Nov. 16th Turkey Supper.  If you wish a $10 table at our Christmas Bazaar, call Verna at 860-564-2388.

Can’t wait to see what the Juniors present this December at their Musical:  always a wonderful evening with a crowded hall.
