Ekonk Community Grange August News Update

By Sue Gray

  AUGUST 4, 2013 --

Our first “Relay For Life” food booth was successful: all food disappeared to hungry and grateful participants with almost $850.00 left after expenses to donate to “Relay for Life”.  Thanks to all who in any way assisted!

The Sterling Republican Town Committee held a fundraising Ham & Bean Supper (at our hall) to benefit the family of Gabe LaPoint (9 year old born with a heart defect who is also battling leukemia); many Grangers helped.

The Scholarship Committee selected Megan DeRouin of Sterling as recipient of our 2013 Scholarship.  This was presented at our July 21st Awards Luncheon at which time Marion R. Emmons and her sister, Ruth Rosebrooks both received their 70 year membership seals; Bruce Lindberg his 55 and the following their 25 year certificates:  Beverly Pepin, Cindy Henry, Mandy Dubay, Sandy Eggers and Mason Gray.  July 15th we catered a roast beef supper for BCLAC (local Vet).

We voted to change the dessert at our Fair supper to Peach Shortcake!  We will serve pork roast, vegs, rolls & butter, beverages PLUS Peach Shortcake!!

We donated $25.00 to Patty Cottrell towards her Walk for MS.  Grangers helped assemble the new Sterling “Playscape”, which features a ladder & slides; see-saws; rock wall; sandbox; picnic table & 2 benches.  Lots of concrete was poured that day and a foot of mulch was put under everything, making it child safety compliant.  The playscape was dedicated July 6th and our President-elect, Link Cooper, cooked all of the hotdogs on his grill for the “Kick-Up” for Summer Reading and

“Dig for Treasures” day of fun co-sponsored by the Library & Recreation Department.  Our Junior Grange sponsored the “Dig for Treasures” in the new sandbox!

Lots of fun things are happening at Ekonk; plan to visit!
