North Stonington Community Grange News for August

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  AUGUST 5, 2013 --

At our June 14 meeting we draped our Charter for yet another Golden Sheaf Member.  Louise Farnum joined the Great Grange above on April 21; but we learned of her passing in June.  She has lived in Gettysburg for many years.  our program for the evening was a patriotic one.  We learned some interesting facts about our flag, the men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Twenty-seven people enjoyed our picnic on the 28th.  Nick Mullane and Charlie Burger were the head chefs, preparing the hot dogs and hamburgers to perfection.  The many side dishes brought by members completed the meal, and Sue had games for the youngsters that lasted well into the evening.

Our August programs should be lots of fun.  On the 9th, the men have the program and the ladies have the refreshments.  On the 23 the opposite is true.  We have to admit that the ambiance on the evening the men host refreshments causes us all to pause and reflect.  There might be candlelight and soft, romantic music.  Who knows that they will come up with this year?  Why not come and find out?  And if the fireflies that are dancing around in my yard will just keep lighting up my nights, next time I’ll tell you all about joyous July.

Aug. 9:  “Smorgasbord”

Aug. 23:  “Mixed Bag”
