| JULY 18, 2013 -- The program on April 5was presented by Mary Lou Keefe, chairperson of CWA. She presented a culinary excursion around the world including Lebanese, Greek, Spanish, Japanese, Mexican, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Italian and French cuisines, along with street foods in the USA. A reading of a typical Italian dinner was also part of the program.
At our second meeting, we had our usual pot-luck supper with a program entitled Arbor Day. There was much information gleaned from this program including who started Arbor Day, tree trivia, crossword on trees & shrubs and riddles pertaining to trees.
Our May 3 program revolved around springtime and seeds, including naming seeds, how seeds are used by humans and birds, tips for a better vegetable garden, ideal dates to plant seeds and plants and the following tidbit from Farmer’s Almanac: “It’s better to be proud of a small garden, than to be frustrated by a big one!” After the pot-luck supper on May 17, we had a discussion about the future of our grange. Phil Prelli led the discussion and the 22 attending were divided into three teams to answer questions such as 1. Why did we join the grange, 1.Why are we still here, 3. What do we enjoy about the grange and 4. What do we not like about the grange? The discussions were good, but the main question is – How are we going to get more members to attend meetings? A few people cannot do all the work that needs to be done, so please, as you read this, make an effort to come to most of the meetings and participate in programs and also by being an officer.
Remember we have only one meeting in July & August as listed above. However, we will be having our fair on Saturday, August 17, and need help setting up on the evening of the 16th. Please visit us at the fair and at any meeting. Have a wonderful summer!
