Ekonk Community Grange July News Update

By Sue Gray

  JULY 1, 2013 --

Congratulations, Katie!  Our President, Katie Molodich, is no vice president of the CT FFA!  Because of the obligations this new office will entail, Katie chose NOT to run for President.  Our Vice President, Link Cooper, was elected and we all know he will do a fantastic job, as did Katie!  Congratulations also to our Steward, Katie Hermonot!  She was unable to remain as our Steward because she will be studying Agriculture in Italy- wow!  She and several other UConn students will be taking classes in Florence, Italy.  Congratulations to Katrina Sebastian too.  Katrina will be traveling with her college theatre group to Scotland, sharing her musical and acting talents as part of the “World Wide Theatre Festival” as they present the Greek play, “Les Estrada”!  Finally, congratulations to our youth graduates:  Carly Sebastian, Irinel Fishlock, Trevor and Clifford Gervais, Jonathan Sarette, Andrew Hawkins (8th grade) and Shelley St. Jean, who graduated college!

Our Strawberry Supper set all records:  most people served (265) and most money profited (over $2,000)!  Our skit “The Grange Garden” took 3rd at “Let’s Celebrate”; Lillian Sharpe’s cookies took 1st and Deborah Sharpe’s picture of her Dad and her son placed 1st in the “Celebrations” category.  State Master Jody Cameron presented Clifford and Trevor Gervais each $100 from the State Grange Youth Travel Fund towards their expenses for the trip to the Kelley Farm Degrees in July.

We voted to allow the seventh grade use our hall for a Strawberry Shortcake fundraiser for their 8th grade class trip to Washington, D.C.

The Sterling Republican Town Committee is using our facilities for a major fundraiser for 9 year old Gabe LaPointe and his family.  Born with a heart defect, Gave is also battling leukemia.  Many Grangers will be assisting with this event.

The July 13th “Blueberry Supper” will feature basked stuffed chicken breast, potatoes, veggies, rolls and butter, beverages and blueberry crisp.

July 21st will be our annual Awards Luncheon (1:00 P.M.) at which Marion R. Emmons will lead the many recipients when she receives her 70 year Grange membership seal.  A total of 150 years of Grange membership will be honored that afternoon!

Plan a visit to the friendly Grange on the hill!
