Prospect Grange June News

By Jean Meehan

  JUNE 9, 2013 --

A successful Grange Month Open House was held on April 28 at the Prospect Senior Center with 33 in attendance which included State Representative Zupkus, Mayor Robert Chatfield, and several State Grange Officers and Committee members and 11 non-members of which we have 2 possible new members.  Unfortunately, none of our membership awards members were able to attend. Doris Welton, 75 years; Althea Hubbell, 65 year seal; Paul Miller, 60 year seal; Marguerite Moran, 55 year seal and Jeanne Desrochers, Golden Sheaf (50 years).

John Dyckman was honored as our Citizen of the Year.  John started volunteering while he was a child and brought up helping others.  He was president of the Prospect Land Trust for several years and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Troop 258, which he founded 8 years ago and promoted the efforts of the Red Cross blood donor program since he moved to Connecticut 25 years ago.  John and his wife have brought up their two children to volunteer their time and talents as well.

Plumb Farm co-owner by Tom Wheeler and his partner David Rubino were honored for their contributions to our community and support of our veterans.  Timothy Meehan presented them with a certificate of appreciation from the VFW Post 7790 for the support Plumb Farm has given them.

Mayor Chatfield presented both with certificates from Congress-woman Rosa DeLauro, Senator Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Zupkus presented them both certificates from the Connecticut State Government.

Our next meeting will be June 13 in which the Steward will be in charge of the program “Come Play with Us.”  This is a neighbors night, so we hope to see some of our Grange neighbors.  All members are responsible for the refreshments.
