Norwich Grange News for June

By Susan Kenney

  JUNE 2, 2013 --

The month of May meeting for the Norwich Grange included an interesting report from Art Tylenda of the Agriculture Committee who reported a threat of invasive bamboo effecting north eastern Connecticut.    There is a group of concerned citizens forming to legislate the removal of bamboo in our area.  Apparently the bamboo is so invasive, it has grown through cement and even a roof and is raising havoc with the farmers in the area.

Our Worthy Chaplain, Richard Tarryk, respectfully conducted our Annual Memorial Service and draped the charter for numerous previous members of the Norwich Grange.

We had our potluck dinner and opened the Norwich Grange to prospective new members.  We had two potential candidates.

Mary Mingo, our Family Health Issues Committee Chairperson, gave an informative talk on winter safety and fall prevention in cold weather.  She demonstrated this  by wearing a  hat, special grips to add on to shoes, and the use of ski poles.  Mary’s husband recently passed away please keep Mary in your thoughts.

Susan Kenney, Balloon Artist and Temporary Lecturer,  gave a Spring Balloon Show and distributed spring themed twisted balloons to members, guests, and potential new Grangers!
