Riverton Grange News for May

By Shirley Moore

  MAY 13, 2013 --

At our second meeting, on March 15th, we began with a pot-luck supper with 42 people enjoying a delicious meal.

Our program for the evening was called “Let’s Dance” and, with the help of Mary Lou Keefe, we were able to have Kathy & Jim Todd as dance instructors, with Jim doing the calls.  They did this for us as one of their 26 Acts of Kindness to honor the memory of Ana Marques-Greene, age 6, who was one of the victims of the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook School on Dec. 14th.  Ana’s favorite color was purple, so the hall was decorated in purple and those coming for the evening were requested to wear purple.

The Todds have attended dance workshops for over 20 years including New England contradance, French, Scottish and Italian folk dance and Irish, Scandinavian and various Eastern-European/Balkan styles.  In addition, Jim has taught American Colonial dance.

Some of us had to sit on the sidelines, but thoroughly enjoyed watching those who really got into the spirit of dancing, some of which was much like the old-time square-dancing.  People learned these dances by the calls Jim made.  Hopefully, we can do this again in the near future because those who participated and those who watched really had a good time.  We always welcome any who would like to attend our meetings or our pot-luck suppers.
