Norfield Grange News for April

By Ruth L. Hickcox

  APRIL 7, 2013 --

Our festive February Valentine Dinner was organized by Julia Braden and Lisa Savage... a winning gustatory combination!  It was followed by a short meeting to discuss the September 2013 fair.

The Fair is much on our minds, as many early decisions have to be made.  Uppermost is the need to raise enough funds to pay for postcards and Fair booklets.  There will be some rather exotic new contests, including “Best Homemade Hooch in Connecticut,” “Best Tomato in the State,” and one just for children:  “Best Decorated Cupcake.”  But keep posted; this is only early spring.  Contestants can be from anywhere in Connecticut, and can include professionals as well as amateurs.  you will find us in the Association of Connecticut Fairs brochure.

Norfield’s Winter Farmers’ Market is in full swing, and at this writing “Heirloom Day” is happening.  There are special events every other week.  By now you must realize that some amazing brains are at work creating these wonderful Market happenings.  There are!

And now back to basics.  We need your dues payments!  Our Grange is dynamic, and our dues are lower than most.  All Norfield members have received notices, but few have replied.  Please send them in soon.

Apr. 9:  Celebrate Grange Month, Open House 6:30
