Norfield Grange donates to Newtown families

By Ken Liebeskind, Weston Daily Voice (12/20/12)

  DECEMBER 20, 2012 --

Vendors and patrons at Saturday's Winter Farmers Market at Norfield Grange responded to the Newtown shootings the day before by donating more than $400 for Newtown families.

Vendor fees were donated in their entirety, and patrons made contributions. In addition, Norfield Grange is participating in the Scarves for Sandy Hook drive, whose goal is to contribute 600 homemade scarves to the children and faculty at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Additional money will be raised at this Saturday’s Farmers Market and contributed to the Sandy Hook Elementary School PTSA, according to Lyn Kimberly from Norfield Grange.

Santa will appear at this week’s market, posing for pictures with children and passing out candy canes. Guest chef Amie Guyette Hall will whip up her Cacao Cow Girl Chocolate concoctions, and Sara Blersch, owner of Daffodil Hill Growers, will give a workshop on making holiday centerpieces.

Vendors at the Farmers Market will have farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, honey, baked goods, hand-knit clothing and other items. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 12 Good Hill Road, Weston.
