No. Stonington Grange News for December

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  DECEMBER 8, 2012 --

We are very proud of our Granger of the Year, Gene Bromley, who received this prodigious award at the annual State Session.

At our October 12 meeting, Nick Mullane, North Stonington’s First Selectman, updated us on the town budget, which had failed to pass three times. Fortunately it did pass on the fourth try with a comfortable majority.  He also filled us in on the progress of the bridge destroyed 2-1/2 years ago in the March floods, leaving our town cut in two.  It opened to little fanfare and great relief on October 21st.

On October 26th the hall bubbled over with costumed adults and children.  Nearly 70 members and friends enjoyed the annual Halloween party.  The judges had a difficult time deciding on the winners in the costume parades.  Prettiest, funniest, scariest, and most original vied for honors in four age categories.  Games accompanied by much laughter and applause followed, then downstairs for delicious refreshments and the annual cup social.  there will be a short meeting at 7:30 before our annual Christmas party on December 14th.  Please bring a wrapped present for Santa’s bag for any youngster you bring to the party.  Make sure the child’s name is clearly printed on the package.  And if Hurricane Sandy will just take a different path from the one predicted, next time I’ll tell you about nebulous November.
