Cannon Grange Fall News Update

By Don Offinger

  OCTOBER 4, 2012 --

Our 80th Anniversary Ag Fair was held on August 19th and welcomed approximately 1600 attendees throughout the day.  And what a day it was with many beautiful exhibits submitted for competition, wonderful concessionaires, great BBQ food, and the best entertainment.  We're proud to say that all the entertainers are Grange members, too.  All of the acts were lined up by Rita Caruso and BillieSue Hollingsworth (and they two ladies also performed!).   The Gate was beautifully operated by Michele Clark and her team of helpers who cheerfully greeted every fair-goer!

The proceeds from the Rubber Duck Race down the river will go towards purchase of an AED for our Hall; and we're nearly there thanks to the generosity of so many people.  Our Fair set-up and take-down was coordinated by Doug Shepherd and Chris Sorensen with help from the Hollingsworth boys. BillieSue Hollingsworth managed all the concessionaires, plus the Sewing Department, performed in one of the Stage acts, and filled in Entry Tags.  Every Grange needs someone like BillieSue; but we're very glad she is a Cannon Granger!

Our Voice of the Fair, Dave Barrett, is a longtime friend of our Grange.  He is also a correspondent with WCBS radio in New York, and Dave made two fabulous pod casts live from the Fair.  We've posted the short one on our website at www.cannongrange.org.  Give it a listen, you'll smile.  It's all about American Values & Hometown Roots.   Dave and his wife Joyce, and son Luke conduct our Auction of veggies and flowers at the end of the Fair.  And what would an authentic Agricultural Fair be without a watermelon-eating contest?  Our friends, the Kirchof Family once again ran that for us.  This year the older kids had to eat their slice without using their hands!  Give that one a try.

We are now back on schedule with our meeting format, and we have posted our dates shown above.  Visiting Patrons are always welcome--won't you join us?
