Oxford Grange to Grow Squash for Food Bank

By Oxford Patch (4/6/12)

  APRIL 6, 2012 --

In observance of Grange Month 2012, Oxford Grange #194 invites the public as well as interested Grangers to its Annual Open House meeting to be held Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall at 482 Oxford Rd (CT Route 67).

The meeting is the kick-off of the 2012 State Grange Agricultural Committee program to grow spaghetti squash to be donated to the Connecticut Food Bank and local soup kitchens. The Grange, for the second satraight year, will be partnering with the Ellis Clark Regional Vo-Ag teacher Sarah LaRose and her students  at Nonewaug High School in Woodbury for this project.

We also wish to involve as many local citizens and Granges who want become involved in growing as much food as possible to help feed our less fortunate Americans who utilize local food banks and soup kitchens. Seeds and planting materials will be provided to attendees who wish to be a part of our program. The squash grown will be collected at a Fall-time Harvest Celebration Program at a date to be announced.

For more information, please call Rob or Maggie Buck at 203-267-6796 or email gatekeeper@ctstategrange.org.
