Winchester Grange February News Update

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  FEBRUARY 6, 2012 --

No news sometimes is good news!  The new boiler has had no new issues since L&L Mechanical repaired a slight leak in late December.  It’s been running very efficiently, already saving the Grange over $100 per month in oil.  We thank from the bottom of our hearts all of the members and the Winchester Center Volunteer Fire Department for the generous donations towards this very costly project.  Unlike most Grange Halls, Winchester’s boiler is required to heat an extremely large structure that houses the Grange, the former Fire Department (now storage and extra meeting space) and the Post Office.  Work is moving forward on the renovations to our kitchen with our plumber working with the Torrington Area Health District to get the plumbing issues corrected to TAHD specifications.

Winchester Grange is extremely proud of Robert Kitch, who was featured on evening newscasts and newspapers throughout the state in January when he helped to save a man from a burning car near the UConn campus where he is a freshman.  His parents and grandparents (also Winchester Grange members) couldn’t be prouder!

As October snow played a factor in canceling our November Holiday Bazaar, we are hoping we have paid our “dues” and will have a Cabin Fever Craft and Bake Sale untouched by weather issues on Saturday, March 24 from 9 to 2 P.M.  Vendor spaces are available to anyone who has a craft or service to promote/sell.  Spaces are $20 for Grange members and $30 for non-members.  Please call Sue Addison at 860-379-0210 or email: info@WinchesterGrange.org for more information.

Feb. 28:  Happy Birthday, Presidents, Country Store (Red, White & Blue), Ref. Linda Senkus

March 13:  Daylight Savings/St. Pats, Ref. Kim, Vinnie & James Mele
