Meet Myrtle the Goat at Weston's Norfield Grange

By Weston Patch (12/7/11)

  DECEMBER 7, 2011 --

On Saturday, Dec. 10, Myrtle, a Nubian dairy goat from The Butterfield Farm will make an appearance at the Winter Farmers Market at Norfield Grange. Myrtle, a one-and-a-half year old dairy goat, is known for being a loving and affectionate lap goat in addition to being a professional milking doe at The Butterfield Farm. Myrtle will be at the farmers' market this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. giving hugs and taking pictures with her fans. Kids and adults are invited to stop by and meet her, ask her questions about the farm and her job as a dairy goat.

The Butterfield Farm Company, located at the historical Griffin Farmstead in East Granby, is a diversified farm focused on the production of caprine and poultry products. Owners of the farm, Tara Bryson and Michael Hearl, personally care for their family of over 120 animals who are credited for creating the beautiful and delicious goods that come from the farm. The farm's products, which include cheese, yogurt and goats' milk bath and body care items, are only sold locally. The farm is committed to supporting the local economy and community in all its endeavors.

"Our farm philosophy is to support the local community and treat all our animals with respect," Bryson said. "We are thankful to those who have helped us and are committed to giving back to the community every chance we get. We look forward to teaching the community about goat dairy farming this weekend."
