Prospect Grange Fall News

By Jean Meehan

  OCTOBER 13, 2011 --

October 14, 2011 Prospect Granger members will be handing out dictionaries to the Third Grader Students at Algonquin School. This will be the tenth year we have done this.  Inez Bramhall our past master worked hard all year making the book worms we have given out with the dictionaries each year.  This adds to the excitement by the students of receiving their very own dictionary.  Principal Patterson and the students and teachers have been very appreciative of our gift of words to the Third Grade Students.  The thank you notes are well worth our efforts. We also have hundreds of Box Tops for Kids  to donated to the school to help them get school supplies.

We are happy to have welcomed a new member to our grange.  Mary Raymond joined our grange in September.  Some of the older members may remember Mary and her husband, they were members back when Kingsley Beecher was State Master. They dropped their membership due to medical reasons.  We are happy Mary decided to join Prospect Grange.

Prospect Grange was very happy to host the Southern Connecticut Past Masters Association's 23 Annual Fun Fair at their last meeting.  We would like to thank every one who helped in any way with the set up and clean up.  Joanne Cipriano does such a great job each year planning and executing this fun night.  I don't think she knows how much everyone appreciates her efforts.
Prospect Grange is holding a raffle to help raise money to purchase more dictionaries for students.  We have been asked to help another school (Tinker School) with school supplies and dictionaries in a near by town.  This school has many under privileged students and the teachers try very hard to teach without  the resources they need.  We hope to give dictionaries to these students as well as to the students at Algonquin School.

At our November 10th meeting we remembered the Veterans and on our December 8th meeting we will celebrate our 117th Grange Anniversary along with our Christmas Pot Luck Supper and hope Santa will visit us.  We will have a $2.00 grab bag and Christmas Card Exchange.  We would love to have visitors.  We meet the second Thursday of the month at the Prospect Senior Center at 7:30 p.m.
