Durham Fair, Big E, Cheshire Grange Fair This Weekend

Durham Fair

Sept. 22 to 25

Connecticut's largest agricultural fair, at 30 Town House Road inDurham, features KC and the Sunshine Band Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., Blues Traveler Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and Steel Magnolia Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. Rides and games are on the midway; see animal competitions, or head to the demolition derby or the truck and tractor pulls. The agricultural fair also features traditional attractions such as art, baking, canning and crafts collections. Hours are Thursday, Sept. 22, from 4 to 10 p.m.; Sept. 23, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sept. 24, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sept. 25, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, free for children under 13.

Cheshire Grange

Sept. 24 - 25

The Cheshire Grange Community Fair runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cheshire Grange Hall, 44 Wallingford Road, Cheshire. Events include goat judging, pie eating contest, water balloon contest, rolling pin contest (for women only) and a rubber mallet throw. On Sunday roast beef dinners are served family style at 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. Adults are $10, children agest 5 to 12 are $5. Children under 5 eat free. Reservations: 203-215-5198.

The Big E

Through Oct. 2

The Big E continues this week, offering loads of food and entertainment at the Eastern States Exhibition grounds in West Springfield. Feast on fried foods, observe Jim Victor's 600 pound sculpture of butter and learn about the featured six New England states. This week, country singer Darius Rucker performs at the Comcast Arena Stage Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m ($29 and $39); the Buckinghams will rock out to music from the '60s at the Court of Honor Stage Friday, Sept. 23, through Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 1 and 6:30 p.m; and a 4-H Horse Show is Thursday, Sept. 22 through Saturday, Sept. 24.

Big E gates open at 8 a.m. Most exhibits and buildings are open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Avenue of States and Storrowton Village are open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Big E, which runs through Oct. 2, is located at 1305 Memorial Ave., West Springfield, Mass. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are free.
