Winchester Grange remembers 85-year member Win Hurlbut

Winfred H. Hurlbut, passed away on June 22, 2011. He was the loving husband of Arlene (Juif) Hurlbut for 51 years. Born July 2, 1911 in Winchester Center; the son of the late Oscar and Jennie (Hill) Hurlbut.

Winfred served in the United States Army during World War II for the 232 Battalion as a Technician 5 Grade. He was employed at The Hartford Golf Club as a Greenskeeper in West Hartford for 46 years. He was a member of the Winchester Grange #74 for 85 years, a member of the American Legion and the Winchester Center Congregational Church. He was also an avid Duck Pin bowler and miniature golfer.

In addition to his wife, he leaves; two sons, Wayne Hurlbut and his wife Cheryl of Winsted and Robert Hurlbut of Torrington; a daughter, Heidi Bodley and her husband Gary of Colchester; grandchildren, Morgan and Madison; step-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leroy and Charles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, at Winchester Center Congregational Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 5, at Winchester Center Cemetery at 11 a.m. with full Military Honors. Friends may call on Friday, July 1, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 6 to 8 p.m.
