Westfield Grange remembers James Bachand

James E. Bachand, Jr., 87, of New Britain, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Hartford Hospital. Jim was born in New Britain and was the son of the late James E. Bachand, Sr. and Louise (Barbier) Bachand. He worked as a machinist for Fenn Manufacturing for several years.

Jim was officer in each of the following clubs: the PNA, Citizens Property Association, Eighth Ward Political Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Northwestern T.G.M. Memorial Post and Westfield Grange.

He worked for the city of New Britain as a police officer for 10 years. Jim is survived by his four sons, James E. Bachand, III, Michael Bachand and his wife Sharon all of Bristol, Lewis Bachand of Glasgow, Ky. and Sam Zoccoli and his wife Karen of Bristol,  his daughter, Marie Walker, his two brothers, Rick Bachand and his wife MaryAnn, all of New Britain, and Robert Bachand of Chester, his nine grandchildren, James, Michael, Gloria, Ann Marie, Samantha, Frank, Dawn, Annette and Edwin, his 13 great-grandchildren, his son-in-law Edwin Madeley of Bristol, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Blanche Madeley, his sister, Shirley Bachand and his brother, Francis Bachand.

Funeral rites for Jim will be held Thursday April 21, 2011, at 10 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave. New Britain. Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans Section of Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain. An American flag will be presented to Jim’s son, Jim. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker / Farmingdale Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 p.m. — 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home: I-84 East or West — Exit 37 (Fienemann Road) — right off exit — one mile down on right.
