Around The Grange
Winchester Grange December Musings

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  DECEMBER 8, 2010 --

Winchester Grange held a highly successful Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 6 with a waiting list of vendors for next year!  This event has blossomed over the last few years and many in the area eagerly anticipate its arrival each year.

We were pleased to receive word from National Grange that our resolution regarding Net Neutrality was adopted and has become National Grange policy.  This is the second Winchester resolution in two years to be adopted at the National level.

We will have our only meeting of December on the 14th.  The program is simply titled “Christmas.”  All members are encouraged to bring a $5 grab bag gift.

We will be looking at new and different ideas for fundraising in the coming months as expenses are high and the need to replenish our treasury is always at the forefront.  We are also talking about the feasibility of reorganizing the Winchester Junior Grange.

Per the National Digest, we must have at least 13 children (of that number at least 4 boys and 4 girls) over the age of 5 and under the age of 14 before we can apply to reactivate the Grange.  We know of three children who are definitely interested and a few others.  Please feel free to contact Winchester President Todd Gelineau if you know of boys and/or girls who may be interested in being a part of the new Winchester Junior Grange.  He may be contacted by e-mail at winchester@ctstategrange.org or by telephone (860) 626-0326.  This invitation goes out to children in neighboring communities/Granges as well.

While the National Grange and the Connecticut State Grange have minimum requirements for Junior Granges regarding meetings and some activities, the slate is clean and the members decide the path that their organization will take.  If the members like to participate in Community Service related activites, craft projects or day trips to theme parks or museums... it’s all possible in the Junior Grange.
