JANUARY 5, 2011 -- Do you Remember ... Ethel Bartholomew
She was a pianist, a true musician, a dedicated Granger, a good friend, and a carpenter. A what? Well, Ethel usually carried a saw with her, to the amazement of many. Her use of the saw was unique. Did you ever hear the music of the saw? It is fascinating- haunting, eerie, floating and lovely. It is nearly a lost art with few “sawyers” left. Ethel learned early and played for many years.
An excellent pianist, Ethel accompanied many singers and was the pianist for the Mountain County Choristers, never missing a rehearsal! She played for several Granges who needed pianists. A member of Eureka Grange No. 62, a former State Pianist, Ethel was admired throughout the state as the “Lady with the saw” ! |
