CT State Grange mourns loss of past State Pianist Huena Wetmore
  JUNE 27, 2010 --

Huena Mary Wetmore, 87, of Hamden, wife of the late Malcolm Wetmore, passed away on June 24, 2010 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on November 23, 1922 to the late Amos and Laura Lafaver Slack.

Huena leaves her sons, Gordon Wetmore and his wife Sue of Franklin, MA and Gary Wetmore and his wife Anne of Hamden; grandchildren, Christopher, Alissa, Alex, and Bradley Wetmore; great-granddaughter, Julia Wetmore. She is predeceased by her sister Cora Williams and is survived by two nieces and one nephew in Canada.

Huena grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada moving to Hamden 65 years ago with her new husband. She was a member of the Cheshire and Hamden Granges, New Haven County Past Masters Grange, CT State Grange (where she was a past State Pianist), National Grange, and the Mix Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.

Huena has been an active member of the Mt. Carmel Congregational Church serving on numerous committees.

Playing the piano was a love of hers, having played at hundreds of Grange events and at the Hamden Health Care Facility. She also knitted many pairs of mittens and scarves for family and church fairs.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, June 28th at Mt. Carmel Congregational Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in Centerville Cemetery.

Friends may visit with her family on Sunday evening at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 4 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Huena's memory may be sent to Mt. Carmel Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 3284 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
